  3. The English and the Welsh voted to leave; Northern Ireland and especially the Scots voted to remain. Now there is a huge to-do about the suddenly relevant border in Ireland, with one of the possibilities (although a distant contender) being to have NI as a territory which continue to remain within the single market and customs union. But why draw the border in Ireland? Every single area of Scotland resoundingly decided to remain in EU. The decent thing to do would be to have the border roughly where Hadrian's Wall stands.

  4. Continental fishermen had made major landings from former catches within British EEZ waters - now almost fully closed to them. British fishermen, , most of whose catch had been exported to the Continent, now can almost no longer sell there. Brexit for the win!

  9. It won't happen. We're heading toward a WTO customs regimen. It will hurt both UK and EU; but will hurt UK far harder, which less has ability to absorb the consequences of the impending economic distortions and disruptions. Rule Brritanal delusions.

  18. Shortages of fresh veg in shops were not only attributable HM''s customs controls - British farmers often of late had struggled to recruit agricultural workers from EU. Brits fully had the sovereign right lo leave the European community, but it is becoming increasingly clear that this was far less than a painless decision. I expect the pain to get worse. Pundits speculate that it might even lead to the dissolution of the Union, as the Scots had voted Remain by a far wider margin than the dominant English had chosen to force them to leave. The next few years well might be interesting.
