Separate matter... toroidal propellers are likely to wound marine life less severely than conventional propellers - which essentially are fast spinning blades which can rip to shreds the skin of a manatee or a whale. Could toroidal blades also be useful for wind turbines? More than one proposed wind farm had been canceled because the locals opposed the noise the conventional turbines would generate.

Cadmium telluride had been on the horizon for various photoelectric applications since at least the mid-1980's. I know that because part of my paycheck depended on an exotic bestiary of research substances and materials. Those were fun times. Back then, solar arrays used discarded single Si crystal discards which failed specs for wafer printing. It was my privilege to have a seat at the table when many of these technologies were in development. Gallium arsenide for Josephson junctions never expanded as some proponents wished. That's how it goes.

The market for EV trucks might expand sooner than expected. Diesel trucks emit significant particulate pollution. This might force the conversion to electrics for short-haul loads in congested ports and urban areas.
