These will likely be reserved for SOT-A and other signals guy. It's unlikely there will be any real benefits adding that much weight to a standard infantry soldier for vision processing. Signals guys could visually represent signals intel they receive in real time. They already have those systems in other form factors. Something that could be useful would be passive night vision aiming since lasers are becoming a liability with the proliferation of third Gen night vision.

@Naylamp21 they dont rely on just GPS anymore. They have inertial navigation systems and only use gps to keep it in sync. They have other means to correct the error of ins now.

@ecleveland1 China will attempt to take Taiwan that much they have made clear. They get to pick the time but the theater has already been set.

I don't think these would be operating anywhere near anti-air or hostile interceptors. They would dispense long range glide / loitering munitions. The enemy should never see the 747 from their perspectives.

@sonictech1000 gps artillery rounds are much more expensive and less reliable than other precision munitions since the shell has to survive the initial shock of the round being fired off.

@josephahner3031 modern tanks have self defense systems that will automatically lock on do lasers. It's not good to use lasers if you like living. They're going to have to figure out finding else for a ballistic computer if they want a full solution.

If you want a job with Northrop they're always hiring at Hill Air Force base in Utah. Learn C or C++, pass for clearance, and you'll have a well paying software job.

@Canadianbacon7042 you feel free to do that but if you're doing inline ads know that I'm going to choose the option of skipping them. I do not choose to access this content with ads and I wouldn't watch it at all if I had to pay a separate subscription for it. That's the unfortunate truth for content creators with how YouTube is a mon opily.

@alwaysloveorange reminder for everyone that it's illegal for Chinese nationals to be on western social media unless they're state agents.

@Chewbakaya seriously. It's a 10 minute video with a 3 minute ad. Wtf are they thinking. No way I'm watching that.

@brandonhoffman4712 the capabilities are limited to the sensors and data it can reasonably capture. Trying to replicate the situational awareness suite of something like the F35 with sensors that fit in your head isn't going to workout. They could augment it with additional sensors but then that defeats the purpose of having a light helmet mounted system. Honestly even just the added weight the unit adds looks prohibitive let alone the weight of the sensors it would add. That's why I said it would be a good fit for sigint and comint guys who's entire job is signals situational awareness. Everything you've said is just theoretical and isn't added in reality where the data isn't nearly accurate enough to be that useful. The army has been pushing these things for the last 10 years and doesn't seem to be making significant progress from what they've released publicly. Also strapping a radio that's always radiating to every troop is bad for survivability

@cshader2488 how would they know where the land is? How would they be able to represent 3D space at that kind of range? It isn't possible without larger radars. They could use a laser but that would only give them range distance for a single point and would also make them a massive target.

@josephahner3031 I do believe they're going to try and integrate it with the ngsw scope. It makes sense. But does the cost match the benefit? Do soldiers really need a 3D ballistic calculator? Maybe? It does add a pinging system which I think is the most valuable public feature they're talked about up to this point.

@ZaphodOddly I agree. Any system they come up with will have to be zero ecomm.

Different roles with different requirements. Navy almost always needs multi role aircraft where the airforce needs a air dominance fighter platform. The F-35 fills almost all requirements for the Navy but does not for the airforce.

These weapons are smart. Like very smart. They talk to each other via data-link. When launched in a swarm one will go high to attract attention and detect signals while the others stay low and fast. When a signal is detected it'll send a batch of the low flying HARMS to the site. This is tech that is very old. I'm sure they have stuff much more complex than this.

@bariman223 not with proper maintenance they don't. Why would it make sense to stockpile and invest trillions of dollars into missiles that expire? That would make no sense.

@john_in_phoenix you have reddit brainrot. Stop calling people bots. It's weird.
