  1. Are any of you actually software or hardware engineers? Do you understand that even if these devices are closed source they are almost certainly built using open source software of some kind. Open source does NOT make your system less secure. It makes it easier to find and fix bugs making no one threat actor special in any way. All the bugs are visible for anyone to see and fix. That's why Linux finds so many more bugs yet is so much more secure than windows for example. This is a matter of national security and we the people who rely on this software should be able to audit it.

  2. ​ @LuisGutierrez-dr6re  yeah the alternative of having one exploitable bug going unfixed for decades even after being used repeatedly is better. Open sources and air gapped.

  3. API specifications are not intellectual property. They are considered corporate secrets which means as long as you didnt steal it from them illegally or by being a previous employee/contractor then you can freely reverse engineer the firmware api and write an open source implementation of your own.

  4. ​ @zoenagy9458  unfixable bug? What are you talking about? All bugs are fixable. It's their duty to provide us with secure devices. Security through obscurity is not security, it's theater.
