sharpie443 if you force a kid to do anything, they'll do it because, well you're forcing them. Make the kid understand, they'll eventually do 'it' on their own. If they are only ever doing something "because I said so" then what happens when you're not there so "say so"? Then the kid isn't so sure and also has no experience with decision making or dealing with the outcomes of those decisions. I got straight A's, a job, pay bills, and generally take care of myself and not once was it because I was "the kid" nor did I do it because I was being told to by "the parent". Matter of fact, when my parents use that term I want to do anything but what they're asking of me. If the parents feel the need to say "because I said so" it'll almost certainly be seen as a lazy excuse. You can force me to do anything, but get me to understand why I'm doing what I'm doing and I'll take it upon myself to ensure it gets done. Sorry for the long winded explanation of my thoughts. Please forgive any poor or improper grammar or sentences that don't make sense.
