If the company failed in 18 months there was not enough funds to fund a migration to new platforms. He knew it was already over. By the time you had a conversation with him he was likely in talks about how to close doors. Even if the migration was done within that time frame all those funds would be going to something that's not generating revenue. Even if expenditure is cut significantly if it doesn't serve the purpose of raising revenue then it serves no purpose to the company. You can have very low expenses but if there is no money flowing in the company will be continuously borrowing to stay afloat.

These companies are replacing very simple statsitical models with expensive and complex AI models. I can only assume this is done to appear more attractive to investors and not because it's actually innovative or beneficial to the business. The profit/loss reports go to confirm my suspicions.
