  1. ​ @HealthyDev  the desire for long term forecasts is the root of the problem imo. Instead of setting goals and milestones realizing that they will change moment by moment they try to predict what the company will need in that 3-5 year period and pretend to know how to measure the work and how to measure it before it even exists. At my waterfall company every sprint is a 5 point ticket plus a 3 point ticket. It just doesn't mean anything. Totally meaningless estimates.

  2. ​ @TerribleTom113  the government is obsessed with process and bureaucracy. Not sure why we think they'd be lean just because it's the military. The military is likely he most process driven organizations on this planet maybe only second to Congress.

  3. ​ @username7763 there is no such thing as a deadline. There is done and there is not done. Milestones can help measure or give a feeling about where a goal is between those two states but no amount of deadlining will make reality match the expectation. It's best to iterate on expectations the same way is done with tasks in Agile. Don't expect anyone to be able to give an accurate estimate of the work unless they have a time machine. Set a reasonable milestones and have regular demos to communicate where something is in the process. If something is stalling then it can be identified at that time.

  4. I think milestones can be used to progress and outcomes at a regular interval and can if implemented properly be used to hold people accountable.
