They got hardware level backdoors. They don't even need the kernel. They have write ups leaked about how they can exploit these backdoors remotely without an Internet connection.

@SterileNeutrino maybe? But no proof of that. They use the frequencies that your cpu and ram gives off when operating and basically use that to sniff memory and instructions. Plus there's tons of proprietary undocumented cpu modules that does who knows what.

"Secure" is subjective. It all depends on threat model and implementation.

@Jan-gl7mn my replies keep disappearing. I can't say his specific name but a very famous person released many government documents that exposed the government. The details of the systems and techniques are in the documents. I don't know how else to say it without YouTube censoring me. Snowden.

@nickoh-bv7dx you can Google it yourself. Look up "leaking data via ram wirelessly" and you'll find plenty of information. Also recommend referring to the Snowden leaks which are all publicly available on Wikipedia.
