NZ'er here, the guy who bought the corner store 15 years ago, still can't hold a conversation in English, my son goes to school with his daughter, she has to sit and watch the news and translate it into Mandarin for him. Hasn't even bothered to learn even the basics.

@mrspecialk1234 Yeah AK has been like that for a while, we stopped at a mall near the big one at Botany, every person except us, every shop, every sign, every book or magazine on the shelves was in Chinese, it was surreal. That was around 20 years ago. The region I live in has only started getting it in the last 5 years.

@8rr725 There’s a “Chinatown” in downtown Auckland, this isn’t it.

@8rr725 In the late 90s NZ had a population of around 3.6 million, pretty small. And over a third of those lived in 2 cities, so when the population went to near 6 million in 20 years, mostly due to immigration from the worlds two most populous countries, you really notice it. A lot.

@8rr725 Yup India & China, I believe India has recently overtaken China as the country with the largest population.
