  2. I worked for a outfit in London once, that would pick your passport up and take it to to relevant embassy to get a visa for travel. I used to go to the US embassy a lot (the old one in Grosvenor Square in Mayfair with the giant chicken on the roof.) Anyway, there was a large map of the world in foyer, that all the countries the U.S govt suggested its citizens avoid all together, or that they classified as "Dangerous to travel in". About 3/4 of the world was coloured red for dangerous, some were genuinely dodgy, but most were placed I wouldn't think twice about travelling to.
