Fun fact, thats Absolute bullshit . A simple Wikipedia search and you would have seen this "The brand was given its name because the original die-cast Matchbox toys were sold in boxes similar to those in which matches were sold."

Corgi and Dinki toy cars were what i loved, they were a bigger scale that MB/HW about 1/43 scale, I had some real cool ones, the James Bond DB7 with working ejector seat that fired a little passenger out the roof, and revolving number plates and machine guns that popped out the grill was my favourite.

Matchbox where better quality and the cars more realistic, plus they made bigger scale ones too, (King size) then they went bust like Dinky and Corgi (2 of the best die cast toy makers EVER) and manufacturing moved out of England to China, the rest is history, compared to the Lesney made ones, todays ones are cheat crap.

@Dirk Platinum Thats 100% correct. but in this case its correct on why they were called Matchbox.
