United we Stand I’m a big believer in government mandates, so as far as I am concerned if a president wins elections on key policies such as “the wall” then a simple majority vote should be enough. I’d feel the same if Democrats were in power and wanted to push their stupid agendas.. election should have consequences and this cloture rule hurts the country.

Rumi900 there are enough checks and balances with the house , senate and the courts to keep the White House in check. We already have people like Jeff Flake who exercises his right to not vote with his party, so really there is very little chance of any truly bad policies from getting passed. The removal of the cloture rule may hurt the Republicans in the future but not as much as not fulfilling their key promise of building the wall when it comes to 2020. As far as the electoral college goes, whether it needs fine tuning or not, it is the voting system and if Democrats want to win red areas then they have to offer policies that will win them over. Simple as that.

Patrick Proctor you’re talking as if Democrats have never been in power. The bottom line is that no matter who is in power they should not have their policies blocked by the opposition party simply because of this ridiculous cloture rule.

Patrick Proctor that’s why there are elections every two years. It the public don’t like the way Government is going they can vote them out. As of January 3 the democrats will control the house . There are more than enough checks and balances to ensure the government in power doesn’t go off the rails. The cloture vote is an over the top measure.
