  1. Australia has Medicare for all but encourages private healthcare by partial government rebates .. approximately a 2% levy is paid by all tax payers to health pay for Medicare.. The problem is that any elective surgery on Medicare has very long waiting periods. As healthcare costs goes up the premiums for private health coverage keeps going up and many people are opting out of private health cover and therefor putting more pressure on the Medicare system.
