@1976oberon not only is it legal, but it is the constitutional deputy of a president to nominate a justice to fill a vacancy when it arises on the Supreme Court. Whether the senate decide to confirm that nomination is up to the senate.

@1976oberon Even Ruth Bader Ginsburg said packing the courts is the wrong thing to do. Congress can pass rules to even change the constitution if they have the numbers in the house and senate and 2/3 rds of the states that doesn’t make it the right thing to do.

@1976oberon only an idiot would advocate for packing the courts ...it’s a precedent that means that whenever there is a change of government the other side has the capability to further pack the courts to make it lean their political way. So the court will no longer be an independent third branch of the government but just another arm of the prevailing side in power.

@1976oberon you do realise that during the Merrick Garland nomination the Democrats were arguing that it didn’t matter if it was an election year , the senate must go through the the confirmation hearing ... so are you calling the Democrats hypocrites now for reversing their position?
