Schumer and Pelosi need to be asked why it was a crisis when they agreed to fund 700 miles of barriers in 2006 and now when it is much worse it is no longer a crisis

@Jodie Holmes . Border security have asked for these steel bollard fences in specific locations. In the last 2 years a couple of hundred miles has already been implemented and border security have said that it has reduced illegal entry by 90% in those areas

@J A C C no one has any figures on illegal immigrants who have successfully snuck into the US and I don’t think any of them are going to tell authorities that they are illegal. Apprehensions are down but does that mean more are successfully getting through? The bottom line is that there has been a significant increase and children and families attempting to abuse the current loopholes and they are getting into the country because according the Flores settlement they cannot be held for more than 20 days and are therefore released into America until a judge can hear their case. Many of these people disappear and do not attend their hearing.

@Campbell Cutler the steel barriers are designed to channel people into areas that are easier to monitor and control and as far as tunnels go border security do have access to tunnel detection technology. The bottom line is nothing will stop those who seriously want to get in , however a comprehensive border security system which includes effective steel barriers will provide enough of a deterrent to stop the majority of people from even trying.
