@Warren Pacholzuk it’s was a pull factor that attracts Central Americans to take on this perilous journey... now they know they will be refused entry so many economic refugees will not even bother trying.

@Lunis1992 just google “ Australia stopped the boats” for numerous sources... The bottom line is that a hard line decision was made and adhered to and the people smugglers knew that it was a costly and futile to try and enter illegally so they stopped. The trick is to stay committed to the hard line no matter how hard the left come at you.

@Alana Weaver Australia had a problem with numerous illegal boat people entering the country. A simple policy change and very strong message was sent to the people smugglers that any person caught trying to enter the country illegally would never set foot in Australia, they would be processed off shore and even if they were found to be legitimate refugees, they would not be granted refuge in Australia. The boats stopped overnight.
