New Zealand is an Island nation with 5 million people that can close the international borders very easily. If you think the US could completely lock down every state for months to eradicate the virus , then you are crazy.

@richardvinsen2385 the culture in South Korea and Taiwan is much more respectful of authority and follows government edicts , whereas that doesn’t happen in the US . As far as mask wearing goes , countries like Sweden don’t have a mask mandate and they have a daily death rate of virtually Zero since July. I strongly recommend social distancing and hygiene, however my problem with masks is that studies have shown people touch and adjust their masks 200 times a day so it kind of defeats the purpose ... more importantly masks give people a false sense of security which makes them think they don’t have to social distance as much, so I think it may actually increase infection rates rather than reduce them.

@matthewwilliams4168 you haven’t been keeping up have you? Europe is going through a second wave where France has 30000 new cases a day, the UK 20000 cases a day and Germany 8000 cases a day.

@matthewwilliams4168 you are not very smart are you? The population of the US is 331 million, the UK 66 million so if you extrapolate how many deaths the UK would have if it had the same population as the US , then the deaths would be 220 000

@richardvinsen2385 South Korea , Taiwan and a few other East Asian countries have managed the spread of the virus very well , I suspect that is more due to cultural differences and a political system that gives total control of the management of the virus to the federal government. The US has a political structure where each of the 50 states have control of how they manage the virus and from a cultural perspective in the US the people don’t tend to take to follow authoritarian government instructions very well.

@郑颍 Australia has a population of 25 million and importantly is also an island nation and just like New Zealand closed international borders very early. The main reason Australia and New Zealand have done very well is due to its geographic isolation.

@RJM56 Canada is going through a second wave that is worse that the first one . However , I’ll be honest with you, I believe in herd immunity by allowing the young and healthy keep the economy going while the elderly and vulnerable protect themselves . That way deaths will remain low and herd immunity can eventually be achieved so that the elderly can have a life again

@郑颍 the US closed the border to China and Europe very early , however I suspect the virus had already spread probably since December . Now , how are you going with Victoria whose idiot premier put incompetents in charge of hotel security resulting in the virus spreading through out the community and killing over 800 Victorians. This also led to the longest lockdown in the whole world and its still going, driving the residents of the state crazy.

@郑颍 No! the death toll in Victoria is linked directly to the failure in the hotel quarantining debacle. It wasn’t the federal government’s fault that the virus was allowed to spread though out the community. If you are not going crazy then good for you, but I don’t think being placed under house arrest for 23 hours a day and allowed out for an hour a day to exercise without travelling more than 5 km from your house whilst being forced to wear a mask is good for anyone’s Heath, especially since this has been going on since July.

@郑颍 the 5 km radius only just changed to 25 km a day or so ago so basically had been in place for months . Now can you explain why no other state has had over 800 deaths mainly in aged care facilities ? I’ll tell you why, it’s because unlike the Victorian government they had police and the ADF run the hotel quarantine and again unlike Victoria these states also had good contact tracing systems so that outbreaks were dealt with very quickly. Danial Andrews should be held responsible for all these deaths but he and his team are too busy trying to avoid responsibility as they know the laws that they set up to hold corporates criminally responsible for deaths under their charge would apply to them , so they are trying as hard as they can to avoid jail time.

@ssjup81 Trump did close the borders from China, however did allow US citizens to return from China. These people self quarantined for 2 weeks , I doubt all of them did fully quarantine, so there is no doubt the virus would have spread some what because of that.
