  3. @Kathy Bath if Ardern was Governor of a similar sized state in the US , I guarantee you wouldn’t be so quick to complement her on her good management . New Zealand is not the same as any state of the US

  6. @R BR do you really think if Ardern was President of the US , she would have any more control over how the governors run their states? Do you think she could have stopped the 100s of 1000s who participated in the BLM riots, or all those people who went to the 4 th of July Celebrations. US citizens a completely different kettle of fish to manage than New Zealand citizens, especially since she can make decisions for the whole country whereas the individual governors make that decision in the US

  7. @Matt West been there twice . BTW in 2018 US had 80 million visitors , and New Zealand had 3.8 million visitors( and half of those were from Australia)

  9. @Jeff Goddin the point is when it really comes down to it , the US as a military an economic force is capable of keeping China at bay for the time being anyway , if there was no US the whole world would be kowtowing to China.

  11. @Jeff Goddin each state is autonomous in the US so they control all aspects of local taxes, policing , education , handling of virus outbreaks etc. This makes it very difficult for the federal government to have a uniform approach to dealing with pandemics. The power of the union is in having a strong military, the upper hand in negotiation trade deals and exerting influence in global matters.

  12. @PedroDeBandit there are 50 states in the US and they all make independent decisions on how they handle the pandemic...as far as travelers to NZL , it is minuscule compared to the US

  13. @Mark Whitmore the bottom line is there is no vaccine to this virus and there probably never will be. So the whole world has to learn to live with it. countries that are trying to do that will have more cases early on but as herd immunity starts to take hold then thing become easier. Countries that avoid spread of the virus will never open up their borders to international travel because they cannot afford to allow the virus in. So I think you’ll find that many countries who are patting themselves on the back now are going to suffer economically, because they have cut themselves off from the rest of the world.
