Social distancing and hygiene yes. useless Cloth masks just give people a false sense of security so they think can forget about social distancing

Boomers are on Trumps side. They’ve lived all their lives with danger in their midst and they aren’t about to hide in a cave now
11
Dondada grand parents are used to telling their kids not to bring their grandchildren around when they are sick as they know Flu can kill them as well

So if Fauci says you can’t protect the elderly and vulnerable then why are we concerned about masks.... social distancing and hygiene sure ! But masks just give people a false sense of security that make people think they don’t have to social distance
6
There are also a lot of long term outcomes from losing your livelihood or being locked down... suicide , drug and alcohol abuse , domestic violence are all way up
5
2000 died from heart disease every day...people die

@cecilbrisley5185 dental professionals wear N95 masks to protect them from being infected as opposed to the general public who wear cloth masks in an attempt at preventing infecting others. They also wear gloves and other PPE . If the general public all wore N95 masks and full PPE then of course we reduce the spread of the virus ..however , what do you think the chances of that happening are?
3
@glogirl6481 the US have a completely difference culture to South Korea. There no way their actions could be successfully replicated in the Us.

@A.Rose.G I just see the virus as another risk that individuals have to evaluate based on their own circumstances. For instance heart disease results in 3 times more deaths than the virus , so those who are in that risk category need to ensure they do appropriate exercises, keep their weight down and take preventive medication. similarly people who are over 65 and have co morbidities , need to make smart decisions of how much exposure they have with crowds and must be more vigilant in hygiene practices. We cannot destroy a countries economy in trying to deal with this virus, individuals needs to asses their own risk and take whatever action they think is appropriate. I have no problem with the government providing assistance is helping people in high risk categories isolate themselves , but I don’t believe that assistance should be be offered to low risk category people and theses people should also not be hindered in their ability to earn a living either.

Herd immunity is inevitable... the American public will not be locked down
3
@garybrench6444 there are also a lot of deaths from cancer every day, any suggestions as to how to reduce those deaths
3
@MilwaukeeWoman I understand the theory of how masks help, I just don’t believe they are that effective. So my preference is to not wear a mask ( that studies have shown people touch or adjust 200 times a day ) but instead avoid crowds and being too close to to anyone
2
@agf1700 there are just as many countries who have mandated masks and coronavirus cases went up... look at Europe
2
The “ I don’t think science knows” is a perfectly legitimate comment to make especially when wildfire scientists have a completely different viewpoint to climate scientist when it comes to wildfires .
2
Theresa Cheong let’s be more specific ... wildfire scientists have modelled the critical amount of fuel load on the forest floor where if it catches fire then there is no hope of controlling that fire . Wildfire scientists know that it isn’t climate change that causes uncontrolled fires , it is dependant on the amount of fuel load in forests .
2
Theresa Cheong It’s common knowledge that most forest fires are caused by lightning strikes . But I’m starting to realise knowledge is not your strong point.
2
Theresa Cheong Canada has about 8000 forest fires a year and Alaska has 719 fires as year. As I’ve said knowledge is definitely not your strong point .
2
So he had a slip of the tongue... what’s next , impeach him for that

@cassidysmith3743 I don’t think an effective vaccine will ever be developed. In fact even for the flu last years vaccine was only 29% effective. The bottom line is whether an effective vaccine is developed or not, we need to learn to live with this virus, as it’s going to be floating around for a while
2
@cecilbrisley5185 studies have shown that people touch their masks around 200 times a day , so are transferring whatever is on their hands onto their masks which is more likely to increase the chances of contracting the virus . As far as understanding what an N95 mask is and what an expert is , well I’m a physicist , so yes I understand simple concepts.
1
@annmagness3202 social distancing and hand hygiene are no brainers when it comes to avoiding being infected. However wearing a cloth mask does nothing to prevent you from getting infected and there is a school of thought that since we touch and adjust the mask around 200 times a day that we increase our chances of transmitting the virus onto the mask. Now masks are recommended so that you don’t infect others. However if you are couching and sneezing then you should be at home and not being out in public wearing a mask . Alternatively if you are. asymptomatic then by definition you aren’t sneezing and coughing so you’re not really spreading the virus anyway. Bottom line , if you don’t want to get infected then social distance and wash your hands regularly.
1
@jukes888 again , whether you have the virus or not , if you are coughing and sneezing, then you should be self isolating rather than donning a mask and going out in public. Also every individual needs to assess their own risk category and act appropriately . So if you are over 65 and / or have co morbidities then you shouldn’t be out in public in close proximity to people whether they have masks or not. Other people wearing masks is not going to stop you getting the virus , but your decision to keep away from crowds and social distance from others is the way to avoid getting infected .
1
@agf1700 surgeons or doctors dealing with infectious diseases wear full PPE including gloves , N95 respirators and other protective clothing . There is no comparison to the pathetically useless cloth masks and bandanas regular people are wearing. . Now as far as Europe goes, you will notice that the cases are rising significantly more than the first wave, however , more importantly the deaths are way way less than the first wave and that is because we understand the virus better now and have learned how to live with it. So stop being such an alarmist and get on with living your life.

Which scientists?
1
@glogirl6481 how about we call it a lockout, when kids have a stay at home order and can’t attend school.
1
@bdegrds of course getting sick from a virus is determined by the choices you make
1
@JuICyBLiinGeR listen you tool , the numbers of kids under 14 dying from COVID-19 are so small that they don’t even appear on Covid deaths charts . Do some research before you make stupid comments
1
@A.Rose.G I’ve got no problem with controlling localised outbreaks with a very short targeted lockdown. However, most local and state government can’t help themselves go for overkill and lockdown everything
1
well actually it’s more deadly than the flu if you’re older than 65, between 45 and 65 it’s just as deadly as the flu and under 45 , the flu is more deadly.. The bottom line is if you’re over 65 , be very very careful especially if you are overweight and have co morbidities
1
not if you’re under 45
1
@tima9790 Trouble is that there are a lot of stupid around.
1
@kazadikashama6098 the virus is going to infect most people sooner or later, all you can do is make sure the hospital system is capable of handling the worst cases should there be a surge. Generally speaking the hospitals are coping fine and developments in treatments and therapeutics having greatly reduced the risks from the virus.
1
Joshua Delatorre Idiotboy, you obviously haven’t read a word I’ve written
1
So what are you going to say about the 700000 lives that are lost because of heart disease and the 30 million people a year diagnosed with heart disease. Is that Trump’s fault as well.
