Merrilou Neigenfind it’s emotional, uneducated idiots like that you encourage illegals to risk their children being raped or killed . I blame people like you for the rotting corpses of 400 people each year in failed crossing attempts
3
Calvin Bottoms so what do you want border control to do? Let everyone in?

Lunatic Fringe it’s considered a misdemeanour first time they’re caught as long as there are no other criminal issues .if they are caught again it’s a felony. Either way it’s a crime and they are detained.. the solution: Don’t enter illegally. Present yourself at a border control station and claim asylum. That way they are not committing a crime and won’t be subjected to being treated as a criminal . If their clam fails (about 80% of the time) they are refused entry and the whole family are deported

Zach Walters inhumanity? What more inhumane . Laws that encourage illegal entry resulting in 400 deaths a year from failed crossings, girls being raped and violated during the journey, or to see children crying while their irresponsible parents are being processed for breaking the law.

Enlightened Perry there are no rules changes . Congress passed laws that treated illegal entry as a crime about a decade ago.. Border control are just enforcing that law. If you are concerned about that law , petition your congressman to have them changed.

Zach Walters what part of 80% of asylum claims are rejected do you not understand? Those who have legitimate asylum claims are granted refugee status. The rest have other non life threatening reasons for trying to enter

Enlightened Perry your last comment says so much about you that I don’t need to present a counter argument. Adios Amigo.

Zach Walters Ok, I’m not sure of the questioning but how about, if the family is from Honduras and they have escaped a cartel wanting to kill them. Isn’t it logical to assess that the fact that they are in Mexico now that they have escaped the threat? Mexico has already granted them asylum. Therefor their claim for asylum in the USA is no longer valid. Would you agree they have escaped the threat by moving to Mexico?

Zach Walters you need to research the concept of “First country of Asylum “. You will find a lot more answers there then looking at various hypotheticals

Zach Walters Here’s an article more close to home and addresses the issues with those seeking to pass through Mexico to get seek asylum in the USA. Basically though each case is treated on its own merits and the bottom line is that 80% of all asylum claims are rejected..and I am confident that those doing the assessment are doing it in good faith. http://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/news/immigration/sd-me-safe-country-20180518-story.html

Zach Walters. We can disagree about whether sources are biased .However , we basically don’t know the details of the asylum claims . The bottom line though is no matter what the reason for the claim , 80 % of asylum claims are rejected... this implies that these people are trying to get into the USA for other reasons.. I would also suggest that those trying to enter illegally as opposed to going through the port of entry to claim asylum do so because they know they don’t have a legitimate claim.
