@John Goldsworthy I’m in the thick of it you idiot . The light rain was enough to clear the sky in my area . We’ve had air quality days at 500 and now it’s it’s 20s

That’s what happens when you get smoke from bushfires. It disappears very quickly when the rain comes.

The states are in charge of the rural fire services who fight the fires. Australia has had bushfires since day dot and there are preventative plans to deal with ensuring the fires don’t get out of control and the fire fighters are very well trained . The problem is it is very difficult to get much of the preventative hazard reduction done because the green tape local councils have .

@John Goldsworthy I’m on the south coast of NSW you idiot and how the fuck would I know how much rain is needed to put out the fires? All I worry about about is how close the fires are to me by using the “fires near me” app to check that. Luckily for us there has been a reprieve in the weather which should last the rest of the week.

@Mark Gearing welcome to what the south coast of NSW has had for months. We’ve had similar hazardous air quality days numerous times up here. Blood red skies turning to black skies and a blood red sun that looks initially like it’s the moon because the radiance is blocked by the smoke . The smell of smoke is heavy and you end up getting heavy eyes and a sore throat, you get a dry cough with hard to remove Phlegm And then all of a sudden after a few light showers , and a week of cooler days with light showers and the smoke just disappears.it will no doubt come back when the fires pick up again but we’ve had the first real clear day for a long time where we can actually see blue skies. .
