  1. Steam pressing elderly people in for non essential operations has been a serious mistake. Next they need another operation which is now essential but will leave them less fit or able to cope for themselves than before they had the first operation. Many I have spoken to say the real pain started after the operation. It was only after I had such an operation cancelled that I discovered I would not be able to do my job, because of the reduced lifting ability I would have, if I had had the operation. 5 years later I still haven't had the operation and I'm still fitter than most people my age. It's the same with surgical operations for basal cell carcinoma which can be treated with immune system modifiers, once the surgeries been done complications start
