Very inspiring! Lower paid people owning their own homes so they can get out of the housing benefit deathtrap - tackling the deathtrap of Islamic schools

+efc toffee somebody who is renting a housing association house can buy that house with right to buy for just a bit less than the rent. people who have complained they get no more than benefit once they take to travel into account certainly can put their money into something that will mean may have more once their house is paid for not ever having to pay rent again + the house

+efc toffee ok here is what I did I only have an agricultural job, I went to a building society he told me I couldn't afford to buy a house when I show them my total earnings for the last 2 years and I said "could you make me a print out of what you would charge me if you did give me a mortgage" so they did. I went to the next place and ask them for a mortgage showing my earnings and deposit they also said I couldn't afford a mortgage though it was less than my rent. So without telling any lies I said "here is the print out from the other Building Society of what they would charge me" they went away for half an hour and came back and said we could give you a better offer than that and gave me a flexible mortgage at a better rate and I pay it off after 10 years of doing much overtime and so on and living frugally, massively saving on interest and of course compared to what I would have been paying rent I own my own home now I'm fixing it up right now it might not be the best house ever but it's mine and I could let a room now my daughter is 18 and left home

+efc toffee Unfortunately if you’re on a zero-hours contract it is going to be a little bit more difficult for you to get a mortgage due to the financial insecurity that you have but it’s certainly not impossible. Being on a zero-hours contract is not a reason on it’s own to be turned down for a mortgage application, however you may need to go through a more stringent application process than someone who is on a standard full-time contract for example. Make sure you have evidence of your earnings, how long you have worked for your employer, and evidence that your contract has been renewed as any lender or mortgage broker will need to have proof of your ability to pay for the mortgage.

+efc toffee You will have to sort it out for yourself, so what about is 0 hours contract, if you get on well enough with your employer to be sure you are going to be able to afford a mortgage you can sort something out with them. I was 45, working in a new agriculture job for only 2 years and still got a mortgage! People where I work are being offered full time now☝ Self-employed people can also get mortgages but as I explained the lender has to be sure that they can prove the recipient can repay the loan otherwise they could be liable for mis-selling a mortgage☝

+efc toffee my employer is offering agency people full time positions but it's a 39 hour week but no overtime premium until 49 hours and most importantly written into the contract is the person has to be capable of doing the job and if not will be put on capability - (a set number of days to get up to the necessary rate of work with additional training if needed)if they are not capable of making the target the rate after three stages of this they can be given notice to leave. If you're on a zero hour contract you could suggest such a contract with your friendly employer👍

+efc toffee well even Boris Johnson said that in the 80s the average CEO earned 25 times the average wage of the company's employees now 130 times the average wage of the company's employees and that's the average wage not 130 x the lowest wage.
