@andersjjensen transistors are simple, and even making structures of atoms is kinda easy (done in the 70-80s), but making billions of transistors on a chip, that is made in millions is something unbelievably challenging

Same birthrate problem as everyone else, just a little less

@musaran2 yes, actual hard limit is near: atoms and molecules. Interested what next

β @AlexSchendel apple would install 1gb and tell everyone how fast it isπ and how fast it destroys SSD swapping to it non stopπ
11
Yup it's extremely click baity for geekz ))) would be fun if it was commonly click bait πͺ€ : Stop the chip printers!!! Hyper NA confirmed ππ Moores law going inter dimension ππ

Russia will be buying Intel/AMD/etc no matter what sanctions are used, using third countries. And for critical stuff like military and space chips, domestic production of 90-350 NM is more than good enough, sometimes even requiring "old" fabs production, that can be radiation hardened.

All this problems make you think if EUV was a right path, or going with electon/ion beam lithography would be better. Sure electron/ion beam is slower, but it runs on of the shelf components, and no extremely expensive and absurdly complicated parts are needed (such as euv mirrors, euv light and masks)

Zeihan is absurdly bad at almost any analytics π π π π

That means HBM pronounced like He Be Emπ π π

@Henning_Rech if it was 1000+ times slower , industry wouldn't even consider this as a viable technology.
3
I think they'll bite the bullet and go for electron/ion beam lithography
3
@kazedcat multi patterning will be absolutely milked till it's viable
3
β @raylopez99 and some countries think men can get pregnant, and that you can charge gender πππ

@Gustavo-gl2ts I know this. But why is the actual size 8-12+ nm? Because the physical limit is near, you can't make a reliable transistor out of 1-2 atoms, it's not even possible to make it from 5-6 atoms.
2
Yup sanctions don't work, and politicians messing with business is just bad π
2
@Henning_Rech watch Asianometry video about technologies competing with EUV, electron/ion beam, and some other were considered. Also no technology is static, every technology is being enhanced for better production, EUV was not a viable technology for some time, but they made it happen. 135 nm optical lithography was considered very viable, and was developed for some time, but was actually a dead end.

Warp NA π π π

Work/life balance must be balanced.

Micron sounds cool π and it's kinda more convenient to pronounce than micrometer π

I think Europe has science and research, but not many businesses that implement that cutting edge science

@M33f3r US thrives on war, it's a YOLO moment for military industrial complex
1
Yup, China will throw unlimited money and human resources at this chip war. And they are going to win
1
@BaBaNaNaBa 6nm line not a 6nm transistor, big difference
1
America sanctions China, and now China has started to fight back, now it's only PR, but they can reduce the supply side on a lot of critical commodities
1
China is so hard pressed right now, that they are going to use their spies to copy asml and zies tech

Another interesting topic is icebreaking LNG carriers for northern route)
