@rodjarrow6575 my message is not about Scandinavian mercenaries in the service of Russian princes
My message was that Russian princes WERE Scandinavians in the 9th century. We don't see any other princes there other than Scandinavian, neither in written sources nor in the archeology.
For example, in the peace treaty of 944, concluded between Igor and Byzantium, the names of the members of the princely family are 90% Scandinavian (Karl, Ingeld, Turbern, Gunar, Sven, Roald etc, etc).
Scandinavians and Varangians are not synonyms in the text Russian chronicle
They are. Nestor mentions among Varangians Sveones, Normanns, Goths, Angles and Rus.
Also in "Annales Bertiniani" you can read as in 839 the Rus ambassadors at the court of Louis the Pious were identified as Swedes. Therefore, one can be both Swedes and call himelf Rus.
