Haig was a victim of the technology of the time, The death toll however was down to his attitude in not correctly assessing the situation rapidly...let alone at all. the lives lost were disgraceful and simply reflected the mans incompetence as a leader. Since then his ghastly grotesque statue on Whitehall has mocked every remembrance parade and veteran to this day.

Was the RAF's first jet fighter any good? No it was rubbish. Canberra pilots got checked out on them but they were awful.

I will be flying it this afternoon in VR.
3
It was a WAR CRIME. I have evaluated all the evidence and that is my verdict.
2
@markharlock6474 congratulations you are the only one in 5 months to take the bait.
2
Bring back the Spitfire.
1
The worst aircraft to learn to fly in.

Also Arnhem bridge was not the last bridge before Germany. Clearly Monty could not map read.
1
@davemac1197 Incidentally the Deventer bridge was used as Arnhem bridge in the film a bridge too far. So you are saying Arnhem was not the last bridge at all and the plan was for loads more bridges?

Records probably don't exist but my Grandfather was captured on the somme and I have no idea where his unit was on 24th Nov 1916 when he was captured. He was with the 17th Lancashire fusiliers (Bantoms) PTE H.V.Harrison no 32836. How do I find out if records exist?

The ME109 is a proper death trap. The best place for them is a museum. I am an experienced tail wheel pilot but there is no way I would want to fly a 109 not even if it was free.
1
Cool ship HMS Bismark I have always wanted to go on her.

Great aircraft but the wheels were too close together to be safe on take off and landing, the brakes were rubbish and the engine had no fuel injection. Instrumentation lacked a none toppling artificial horizon. Airframe was superior to the 109 which suffered from even worse undercarriage problems But I think the 109 engine was better than the early merlins. The P-51D cured all the Spitfires problems. In my opinion the Spitfire was nonetheless a legend of the sky.

@lateralg3169 Yes the Packard Merlin was fitted to the P-51D. I was talking about the early spitfire Mk1 Battle of Britain era.The Spitfire got a lot better in later marks but could never really goto a nose wheel. (which would look horrible) Nose wheels were the future.

It was a good old bus but out of date by the time it arrived. The GR4 was the best one but even that was way behind the older USA aircraft.
1
I think it was designed to carry a nuclear war head.
1
@shaider1982 It was all in it's infancy for sure...
1
@donjones4719 I agree they never got near but the idea was there and the delivery system. The V1 was the first cruise missile.

@wcg19891 you don't think.....

UK was too mean to buy any.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CGwm_8jtLxw A true Gentlemans aircraft I fly mine regularly. A much nicer aircraft than the Spitfire.
1
Very good chopper thats why.
1
Vulcan had a forced feedback joystick. I fly mine a few times a month https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=POohfWkNpms&lc=UgxPElK0vpO6aU7I2Xh4AaABAg.9jLwnoTDg6e9jM3zaugK83
