  1. They're not even really suburbs like American ones. Sure, we have neighborhoods with mostly single-family homes further away from the city centre, but they're not really suburbs. And because our cities are so dense anyway it's still walkable and cyclable. I grew up at almost the north edge of town in the 7th largest city in the NL and it takes 30 minutes to bike from here to the south edge of town. My dad is 70 and he walks almost everywhere just because he likes it and he can. It takes about 20-30 minutes to walk from his place to the central train station and city centre. So I feel like 'suburb' is a misnomer when talking about these Dutch neighborhoods because you just can't compare them to American suburbs.
