  3. Even as a 22 year old I fully agree with slikrx. I'd be very concerned if my thoughts were the same as when I was 15, or honestly even 2 years or a year ago, let alone when you're 40 and it has never changed since you were a teenager. I don't even understand how that would happen, you'd have to literally never come into contact with new information, new ideas, new people, new ways of looking at thing, or be the most close minded person on earth to never accept any of it.

In the regions where people have the least kids in the world, so mainly the western world, consumption of everything and CO2 production in total and per capita is the highest by faaaaar. The place where people have the most kids consumes and produces the least. The whole continent of Africa actually only produces 7% of the total global CO2 emissions. It's not about how many kids people have, it's about how much and what they consume.

If you're smart and your priority is being smart and it makes you a happy productive member of society, good for you.   11. True dat. Hank mostly but John as well seem to know exactly what the problems are and also how to solve them but don't really seem to act on those solutions. You don't have to go vegan, but just vegetarian helps a lot and it's soooo easy to just replace meat with plant-based alternatives.

When I first saw this video 5 years ago I broke down hysterically sobbing when John said there is hope and that I wouldn't always feel this way, because I wanted it to be true so bad but after 7 years of chronic depression, suicidal ideation and nothing that ever worked to lighten the burden, but I couldn't imagine it actually being true, let alone achievable or just around the corner. Well, I finally got a therapist who saw there was more under the surface, got an unexpected autism diagnosis on top of my bipolar II and then finally medication that worked for me. I've since finished high school, I'm now in college, my house is clean, I like my life, myself, I have so much to look forward to, and almost a decade of severe chronic depression seems like a bad dream. There is hope, mental illness is almost always treatable and how you feel when you are at your sickest isn't how you'll always feel. There's hope, kids. Do not give up.

  15. If you do, can I work for you as a Dutch translator? We have the same problem with translated works as our population is only 17 million people. I recently got interested in a new topic and most of the time it's downright impossible to find a translation, and if a translation exists it's from 40 years ago and you have to go to the other side of the country to some obscure second-hand bookstore.

  16. I've been feeling pretty disconnected for a while now, tbh. And especially since I binged my way through the first year. It's just... I liked when they were just 2 guys, having normal lives and finding creative ways to keep in touch and provide entertainment. Nowadays John almost exclusively talks about his books and movies and whatnot, and idek what Hank is doing. A lot of activist and political and social stuff. And please don't get me wrong: I am NOT judging. I am NOT saying it's good or bad, or that they should be doing something else. I get it. They've been doing this for 7 years, they're gotten older, changed, gained a large fanbase and the possibility and with that almost obligation to raise awareness about important things, and it's amazing that they are doing that, as opposed to so many other celebrities.  But it's just not my cup of tea anymore. I like vlogbrothers 2.0 the most. And I even have to admit I let their videos heap up for weeks and then watch then with a groan because well, it's the Vlogbrothers, y'know.  Anyway, this is my 100% subjective opinion which doesn't influence anyone's life in any way at all, of course. And John and Hank, keep doing what you do, the world needs people like you, but I don't think I'm going to be watching anymore.

  25.  @azx9995  Not everyone who lives under capitalism is a capitalist, so it's false to say most of the world's population is capitalist. Only people who own means of production are capitalists. The rest are the workers, the proletariat. They are not the problem. They are not making profit. They are just selling their time and labor for less than its worth to survive to capitalists who profit off of them. The capitalists are the problem. And how? We are the 99%, that's how. We're with more, more than enough. We could easily overpower them if the will was there. And then we use the great big woodchipper. Or the tried and tested guillotine, but now it's electric and even more efficient!
