  2. Thank you for the info. My "20" RAV4 has the 8 speed transmission and no problems! Up shifting.....very well, downshifting is done when it's needed. One thing I found is a little......not so great. Step into the throttle, the trans will downshift quickly, smoothly and your off! Let up on the throttle quickly and it takes more than a few seconds for the transmission to upshift back to a comfortable speed for the engine. It's as if it down shifted one or more speeds, then it's reluctant or slow to decide to shift back up one or more speeds whether or not your applying the throttle again. This is in the "normal" mode, haven't tried the trans in "sport" or "econ" modes. Other than that, yes it has an 8 speed trans, and it uses all of them!

  11. A VERY thorough inspection! About 2 years before I retired at the City (Dept of Water and Power) fleet, I got to inspect at our Body shop for mechanical damage on accident vehicles. I LEARNED A LOT! Took time, but like you I looked for the small details that didn't look right. Amazing what happens to a vehicle in an accident. The vehicle you have there is in VERY GOOD hands!   12. My 06 Frontier needed a new recirc motor. Out came the entire dash. While out, I replaced the recirc motor, air mix (hot/cold)motor, cleaned the reason why the recirc door was binding, made sure other doors operated smoothly and reassembled everything. I used the green masking tape method. Wrap the tape around screws and ID their location. Same for nuts, other hardware and both sides of the electrical connectors. Takes longer, saves time and patience with reassembly. Same with my wife's 06 Sorento. The Kia also got a new evaporator and heater core. Both were completed at home in my garage. I've done several Ford trucks and one Escort at work in the past. No one else in the shop wanted to do them. They all took time. Except for one Ford Truck, all the other vehicles worked as designed with no problems on startup. That truck had a bad A/C compressor unknown to me. Yes I fixed it. Green tape, take your time, replace parts in those assemblies that WILL break soon. Why change working parts? "I do the job ONCE, so I don't have to do it over or again!"   14. When I got my 2020 RAV4 new it came with 2 years free oil changes. Uhuh. That means only 2 oil changes. So, at the 6 month interval, I changed the oil and filter with Toyota oil and filter, then DOCUMENTED that change/ inspection in the owners service/inspection manual. Also I kept receipts with the service book. 10,000 mile oil changes? OH H--L NO! Don't forget "Cabin Air Filters!" Change them when they're dirty or every 2 years. It's Cheap Insurance for you AND the vehicle's HVAC System. Thank you for this video Ahmed.

  15. Before retirement I did a lot of diagnostics in a City Fleet. Periodic Maintenance Inspection or PMI with oil and oil filter changes is the best way to maintain a vehicle....PERIOD! Even after diagnosing/repairing a vehicle, if I spotted something wrong, I fixed it! Being the Auto and Construction Equipment Electrician, most of the time I didn't get to do the mechanical parts. However, didn't matter what it was, if something was bad or showing signs of going bad, I either fixed it or made sure to let the shop supervisor know about it. Tires and tire pressure were hot items on my list. You are right about this vehicle AMD! ! Rust and corrosion (like on that car's battery) may be hiding unsafe parts! Thank you for this video!

  16. Thank you for this video, the tech tips and of course a touch of humor. Didn't know about the synchro's and GL5. 1. With my 2020 Rav4, it has electric motor assist steering, which is great, but I don't know what is used for a lubricant in that unit assembly. What do you suggest? Dot 3 or Dot 4 will be used with the vacuum tool for the brakes after I use the test strip to determine water content, or just change the brake fluid because of almost two years of time. 2. I'll have to check to find out about what type of ATF and how much. What do you suggest for the ATF, it's a non hybrid? I'll continue to use 0W-16 for the engine oil, unless there's been a T.S.B. update to use something else?

  17. Thank you for this video, also the great looking and running vehicles in your shop. I'm going to change the transmission fluid in my 2020 RAV4 before summer. I have the video you recorded for the fluid change. My XTOOL D8BT is the go to Diag tool, thank you for that recommendation, and I remember watching that trans fluid temp reading I saw in the tool's readout. I'm keeping this video as a backup to the other one. Would have changed it last year but thanks to jury duty and other things that came along, this will be the 5th ownership year, and the fluid change. Good one Ahmed!

This is the only time I've ever seen a stock vehicle completely taken apart, had parts replaced as needed, ( and replaced because "I'm going to do the job once") then stripped down to do "More than" a thorough cleaning and detailing, followed by other "extras." Can't forget how much camera time this car has seen, and now this "One Of A Kind" 651,000 + miles car has more than a second chance a new life! Better than a new car just off the assembly line because this car has had all those little "Gems, Suprises and debree" left behind by assembly line workers........Removed! AMD, May the Lord bless you, and I hope you get another 20+ years and another 600,000 + miles from this car!

  21. Thankyou for the comparison. Toyota built their system for the Prius and basically kept that design for many years. Why mess with success? I don't own a hybrid or EV, but I sure do like my 2020 RAV4! Not a lot of miles on it, but a joy to drive!

  23. I'm waiting for TCCN "in-depth" inspection video! I'm starting to like what I see under the car. The fact that it's turboed means Toyota did their homework as you can see by the LARGE exhaust for such a small engine. Gas mileage should be interesting "if you can keep your foot out of it!" Manual transmission, you've got my attention! I sincerely hope this is a home run for Toyota! One more thing. Where did you buy that funnel for adding the oil? Thanks for this video.

  29. It's back running and I hope the remanufacturer gave a GREAT warranty. Thank you for the history of the vehicle and what the previous engines went through. When you off road, things break. Sometimes no matter how careful you are, "Carnage Happens!"

  30. I'm sure you put the "O" rings for the oil passages where the oil channel meets the cylinder head. I was amazed when I did my Nissan's 4.0 timing and water pump parts, all the little and big "O" rings! What was sealing that oil passage cover mounted to the front cover? I noticed you didn't remove it. Hopefully not a cheap gasket like Nissan uses! The tech tips are always great and the best ideas for teardown and especially reassembly. Were those "O" rings on the bottom of the timing cover for the oil filter housing or RTV? Oh ya. Where did you buy those red fender covers? I wish I had those! Thank you for the detailed tech tips and I hope the engine is leak free! Kudos to the owner having the coolant pump replaced now instead of later. SMART!

  31. I've seen "indicators" like your showing how a vehicle has been hit and the severity of damage. You can only hope the repairs were done correctly. I'm glad your doing safety inspections in addition to preventative maintenance inspections or P.M.I.'s. It's amazing what you can find with these inspections. Great Job beautiful shop!

  32. That's a shame to have rod bolts come loose like that. I'm sure not all of those engines have that problem or hopefully there should have been a recall for that problem! I hope my 2020 RAV4'S A25A engine doesn't have this or other problems. Thank you AMD for this sorta-scary video.

  33. Thank you for this video. I do change the brake fluid in all three of the vehicles in my yard, and one of them is a 2020 RAV4. I don't have the test strips, I live in the southwest so it's usually a dry climate however, I do change the brake fluid every two years. Like engine oil, brake fluid is cheap. Engines and Brake Systems are expensive!

  36. @Costarica. Your doing it right! Remember. OIL (and other fluids) IS CHEAP! ENGINES (and other engine/drive train parts) ARE EXPENSIVE! Try pricing a Toyota Reman engine or transmission or transfer case. Oil Is Cheap! (even Mobil 1)

  37. You put the information out there, now it's up to the future customer to decide. I say "Test Drive The Car Thoroughly!" I also don't like the 4 cylinder engine in a larger car! This car needs at least a V6, but SCREAMS FOR a V8! That turboed 4 cylinder is obviously way overworked and definitely out of it's class! In my 20 RAV4 it thinks and acts like a V6! Course the RAV4 is much lighter than the Lexus RX series, which is why the RX needs the V8 or at least the V6. Turboed 4 cylinder engines are beat to death and don't last long. Thankyou for this video. Mostly I like the vehicle, but not with the 4 cylinder and that stupid camera on the steering column! Talk about big brother watching!

  38. Nice vehicle for "track type driving," but like you said it's not made for long distance driving. Also, I wouldn't even try to drive it on a snowy day or even the next two weeks after that! It's not made for that! I don't hate the car, probably if I drove one, I'd want to buy it "Right Now!" Anyway, thank you for the in depth explanation. Hopefully this car will last many good years and not have the Euro curse of high maintenance problems!

  42. One question I forgot to ask. When it comes time to replace the battery, does the 2020 RAV4 need to have the battery "registered" with the PCM? Mine is not a hybrid or a "pushbutton start." It's a base model that uses "key in the ign switch" for operation.

  44. Thank you for this video. I've tried in the past when a vehicle had a problem, at work, to explain what was bad, and what it took to replace it. Occasionally I used the comparison of a person with a stuffed up nose, how the brain compensates, and then applied that to the problem with the vehicle. Sometimes I would get a "Oh I see" response. Intermittents were another story! I call them a curse of the automotive industry, but a great learning curve!

  46. AMD is so right! We had guys at work that had Snap On this, Mac that, and I have the older Craftsman tools which served me well! Now Craftsman is all from China.....good luck! Gear Wrench make good tools, but don't use that ratchet wrench when breaking loose a fastener. The ratchet is designed to help quickly remove a nut or bolt. Short or shallow sockets are good but deep sockets are great! My favorites are deep, 6 point, impact sockets. Sometimes you'll need 12 point sockets. Impact wobbly sockets have proved to me their worth MANY TIMES! Like AMD says, buy individual sockets, not a set of 12, unless you really need them, or there's a once a year sale on them. Sometimes tool trucks will do that just to lower their inventory. There's a lot more to tools, more than can be covered here.
