  3.  Gernot Schrader  Industrial civilisation has a very limited lifespan on any planet. Ours is just about done, we've used all the good sources of resources now. So while life may exist elsewhere, interstellar civilisations aren't possible.

  4.  Gernot Schrader  we will not be leaving the solar system whether we set that goal or not. it's unlikely humans will even land on the moon again. I don't think you've understood. the space programme was a luxury we had when we had cheap resources. we won't have those any more.

  5.  @angrymokyuu1951  no not really. it's energy not technology that matters. technology such as mining equipment is useless without energy to fuel it and it's cheap energy that's becoming scarce. this is the problem and it's insoluble.

  6.  @angrymokyuu1951  Fracking is played out now and was never profitable for most of the players. it produced poor quality oil (too light) that could not be used by US refineries without blending with heavier oil. Global oil production peaked in 2018. All the problems we're having at the moment are due to lack of cheap energy. Because we need so much energy now to mine metals from poor quality mines (the good mines are all exhausted) our problems are compounded. Then there's climate change on top of all this. The major droughts in places like the Western USA are starting to impact food production. All this with close to 8 billion humans on the planet who all need constant supplies of food, water and energy just to live.
