To make matters worse, lithium batteries obviously do not themselves produce energy. So we are expendng huge amounts of energy mining to produce batteries that also need charging. How do we charge them? Well the only ways usually suggested are 'renewables' which in fact mean an awful lot more mining to produce solar panels and wind turbines which of course don't even work half the time. The whole thing is hopeless, there can be no 'transition'.

@xr6lad EV's do indeed need to be charged per mile and soon will be.

I believe that the lithium ore in Nevada is pretty low quality so chances are nobody will want to mine it anyway, hopefully.

@RickSpicer Diesel is going to become scarce, we should preserve it for trucking and heavy plant equipment if we can run the trains on something else. I understand there may be no alternative fuel in some places.
2
In the Uk they are mandating that people charging at home have smart chargers and smart meters. They'll shut them down when the grid is stressed, which it increasingly will be.
2
Well we arent forced to buy them. One alternative is just buy nothing like me but I suppose a lot of people do 'need' a car.

@simon6071 Gas prices aren't artificially inflated. Sure there's a lot of tax, but your car is no use without roads or bridges. You are not compelled to buy anything. I wasnt offering you a 'solution', I just explained that that's what i did. Again with housing, the alternative for some may well be to live in a tent or under a bridge. It's not my problem.

@simon6071 It doesn't matter what they want.
1
@simon6071 I didnt say it did.

@CawKee Ha ha yes indeed. The 'green' advocates have no clue how the world works. Using diesel fuel, steel, cement, fertiliser etc on a large scale is how we live today and it's not optional.

@gaiustacitus4242 Trains never went away and are still heavily used in America.
1
@roadtrip2943 There is simply nothing whatsoever we can do about the climate. It's not worth worrying about.
1
@gaiustacitus4242 that isnt true, a hell of lot of stuff is carried on America's railways.

@TroySavary i love mining but not lithium mining.
1
@TroySavary It takes huge energy and resource inputs to use the tar sands so the overall net benefit from them is very low.
1
@TroySavary any damage caused by oil and gas drilling is irrelevant.
1
@TroySavary you would think most EV's would not be at home then yeah.
