  1. The world economy has grown gigantic and has a huge need for resources of all kinds including fossil fuels like oil. The planet is finite and fresh supplies of resources are no longer being discovered. The economy likely can't grow any bigger than it is now, in fact as supplies run out completely it will get smaller.

  3. Resources are becoming scarce. The world economy has become so big that feeding the factories with enough fossil fuels, metals, plastics, wood, leather etc is becoming difficult. America builds millions of cars a year, Europe builds even more, now China is building more than both of them put together. In the 1970s the oil shortage was sort of resolved by new oilfields in Alaska and the North Sea, but in 2021 the whole world has been explored and there's no more big fields to find.
