@Writeous0ne We wouldn't be self sufficient. The UK does not produce uranium and even if it did it lacks the specialist industrial plants needed to turn it into nuclear fuel. A reactor can only go one year eleven months without needing to be shut down and refuelled.

@Writeous0ne if you have a job you're certainly not self sufficient. Almost nobody in the UK is no matter what they do. For example someone who lives by hunting deer with a gun is not self sufficient.

@Writeous0ne OK yes I think a small amount might be produced in Cornwall. But nowhere near enough for a power stations's needs. You appear not to have understood my comment. Uranium is useless unless it is processed into nuclear fuel which we can't do. It's nuclear fuel we need to buy not raw uranium.

@Writeous0ne The energy would not be produced here. Very large amounts of energy go into mining and refining uranium and producing the vast amount of materials needed to build the power station. Without that you've got nothing. It's like importing goods from China. You're really importing embodied energy.
