That's right. How do you think the Royal Navy became so powerful? It's because we had a lot more trees than most countries left over for shipbuilding since we needed a lot less timber for firewood.

@timothykeith1367 That's right and it meant wood was available for all kinds of furniture and more housing. Coal was a huge boost to the economy.

you mean electricity not energy. Electricity is only part of our energy use.

Peter doesnt really know what he's talking about. As you say, American anthracite, what little is left, comes from Pennsylvania. The Wyoming Powder River coal he talks about is pretty low quality

@donaldkasper8346 A lot of coal is used already. its only poor quality coal left now though, low energy output and very polluting.
