  12.  @wisenber  the goverment withdrew some offers of dilling licences because nobody wanted them, that's all. there is no freeze on drilling anywhere there is oil. the govenrment does not want to destroy the economy because that would destabilise the country.

  13.  @wisenber  you dont understand what a shale formation is and why it needs to be horizontally drilled and fracked. you would get virtually nothing from a vertical well. it would not be worth doing.

  14.  @wisenber  that is what happened. some auctions were cancelled because the oil companies didnt want the land. the right wing press pretended that this meant that Biden was restricting drilling. he is not. if a company wants to drill, they can get a licence and drill.

  16.  @hadleygodden2323  Zeihan doesn't know about any of that. He doesn't even know that shale oil from fracking is the wrong kind of oil (it's too light to make diesel so US refineries don't want it. It gets exported).

  19.  @davidchristie696  if its too light to make diesel it is trash. you can produce diesel from conventional US oil and North Sea oil. but not shale oil. shale oil is not priced at a premium, obviously, because many refineries don't want it.

  22.  @nicholascarter9158  it is exported yes but obviously you would not be able to trade it for oil that is good for diesel. it just gets sold on the international market then the US imports the oil it needs on the international market. it's not useless, it's just not a premium product. With all the fracked production the US has an increasing problem with too much light oil and natural gas liquids being produced. It's all classed as 'oil' so the production figures look much better than they really are.

  23. The cost of capital is going up because interest rates have gone up due to high inflation caused by energy prices. It's nothing to do with boomers.
