The cheapest muffler (I don't call them Silencers) is actually pretty damned cheap, if you have a single shot .45 with a good lockup. (I used a super-comanche, and subsonic "Soup Can" handloads. I called them "Soup Can" because that was roughly the shape of the 379 Wadcutter I loaded deep in that cartridge so I could build up more pressure, faster while it was in the 6" barrel. Super-comanche pistol, the hammer was the loudest sound it made, but it was an oil impregnated fiber packed wet can. Basically like a Glass Pack for a car muffler without the baffling. It was only good for one shot, but that one shot was quieter than the hammer snap, and the wadcutter hit like a hand-thrown soup can. The whole can cost like $15 bucks with English hose clamps in 1990s Ace Hardware dollars. not counting the gun, and ammo, you just had to take it apart, and re-pack the whole thing, after every shot. Not really all that economical, unless you're a budget hit-man. Also incredibly illegal, so don't try this at home, folks.)
