  1. If they need a planetary core to power their massive ships, then how in the hell did they get that one here, or the original mother-ship in the first place? It's not like they have Planetary Cores anywhere near Alpha Centauri. (The 3 body problem gets infinitely more problematic when the system has 3 Stars in it.) Why not just use that technology to syphon energy directly from Stars? You can't tell me that semi-molten nickel-iron has more energy in it than fucking Fusion does. Also, the sun has Fusion going on right below it's plasma surface. It's not buried under 4,000 miles of solid rock. How much energy did they waste drilling to the core, and then gravity sucking the molten metal back up to the surface? No wonder they are having energy problems, their reactor design seems about as efficient as their anti-virus software. Shouldn't they be targeting mega-volcanoes like Yellowstone instead of major world cities, if they're going for the Core? Why didn't they even show Hawaii? Tokyo? Greece? Oh right, because they don't have any readily identifiable landmarks, or famous volcanoes, in Greece.

  2. Some actual physics: Iron is an elemental dead-end for fusion (Lead is another one for Fission) The Coulomb Barrier is so high that it kills stars, and makes them explode. That seems to suggest that you can't get more energy out of it than you put in to extract it. That's the problem with the Alien's plan: They need an inter-stellar planetary armada to power an interstellar planetary armada. So, how did they get started in the first place, by sucking their home-world hollow? A better plan just might be to fix their home-world, or using that advanced technology (Interstellar flight, and Gravity manipulation) to fix their home-world and all their energy problems.
