Okay, you're mixing up a few subcultures here: The Gay Beards aren't "Hipsters." They're Gay. Ted Allen isn't a Hipster either. A big part of Hipster Subcultures was ripped off of Gay, and Lesbian culture. The lesbian part? Take a look at a Rockabilly Hipster Chick. What's her nuts, the lead singer of Muse? Miley. Where do you think they got those haircut from? Gays, and Lesbians are Avant Guarde. You can tell, because Hipsters rip them off, about 5 years later. So, if you do something the gays have been doing for at least 5 years, you might be a Hipster. If you have EVER called someone on the Bechdel Test, in conversation, and you're not a Lesbian. You, my friend, ARE a Hipster. Nobody else can be that gauche.

Also, there's a little overlap with Scenesters. Trust Crusties. Hotopigoths. Pretty much all of Emo with the exception of some of the Artists that make the music. The critical difference is Hipsters have Money. Scenesters usually have to borrow from their families.

Pretty much intellectual Bullying. If you can't pull that off, you can't be a hipster. It doesn't automatically make you one, but it's a dealbreaker if you want to hang out at the cool kid's table.

Minneapolis beat out Santa Fe for the top 4? Seriously, have you been to Santa Fe? Okay, they don't live there full time, they summer there, but still. They go into Pueblo shops, say how much they "Really respect your culture" and then ask why they don't sell dreamcatchers. "Because we're Pueblo, not Hopi?" I saw one in the Nambe' pottery store that couldn't even name the Pueblo when asked. In the Nambe' Pottery store. It says it, right on the sign out front. While you're out there? Don't come back, and tell them how much you really respect their culture. If you did, you'd learn what the fuck it was called.
