  1. It sounds like the Messianic Prophecy delusion to me. I mean, he was right, but he appeared to be talking about this for years, before he lived up to his own hype. Almost, I mean he didn't take over the world, but guys said stuff like this to legitimize their claims all the time. Not exactly the same things, but he didn't appear to say the same thing. Some of the details changed, like whether it was Apollo, Sol Invictus, or Jesus that inspired him, but this wasn't exactly a new story even back in his time. He might have just taken inspiration from earlier stories. Also, he obviously really liked the Solar imagery. That much is obvious. It doesn't really matter which Sun god, when you're this awesome.

  2. There's also the 8 spoked wheel that's the Iota, Xi, Theta, Ypslon, and Sigma superimposed in a circle. Not only is that pretty attractive to someone that loves that Sun imagery, but also not too much of a stretch to abbreviate that to Xi, and Rho, if you want to do something new. Ish, and paint it on shields, or mount it on a pole.
