Let me put this into context: My ex girlfriend inherited a 1978 Porsche 928 from her father, all the controls were in German, and it suggested, in German, that the transaxle be lubricated with Whale Oil. Petroleum was the first Wonder Fuel, which replaced all but Natural Gas, with some distillate or other. (And yet, there were still some applications, on the verge of Delicacies, which still called for Whale Oil, or Ambergris. In 1978)

  2. Germany did trade with the US when war broke out. We stopped providing petrol shortly thereafter, in a couple years, to stockpile our own reserve, but at the time we were undecided whether we would be going to war with Germany, or Briton, until we're attacked by Japan.

  3. You also skipped a major supplier of fuel for the Warmacht: Italian territories in East Africa, and the Arabian Peninsula. One of the main reasons they were in areas such as Eritrea was to create a supply line back to Italy, and another major reason for Rommel securing and holding ports in Tunesia: To set up a supply line from the Middle East to occupied Europe. Until Itali, well... It's complicated. That's when they were essentially forced to invade Russia, when the Italian supply lines were no longer available.

  4. "If Hitler had not..." That's the MAIN reason why Germany lost WW2. Hitler, that's the short answer, but the long answer is he pushed Germany toward an impossible Win Condition. He also mucked up a lot of things at a level of Absolute Power, but ultimately, they could never win, because their goal was to make the entire world Perfect. Even ignoring the fact that they ment "Pefect, like Germany," however you define it, the world is full of human beings, and human beings will never be collectively perfect, even under the most Benevolent Despot. (He wasn't the most benevolent despot, and he was barking mad.)
