  1.  @theglobalgambit  15:09 Saying something along the lines of "hey, wouldn't it be funny if I joined NATO?" isn't the same as "okay, I really want to bury the hatchet, and I'd like to formally join NATO. How and where do I apply?" As far as I know, Russia did the former in a super passive aggressive way, but they NEVER did the latter. If you have solid evidence of Russia FORMALLY attempting to complete the application process, I'd love to see it. What they DID do was join the Partnership for Peace, which was a NATO anti-terrorism cooperation program for non-NATO members. Ukraine is also a member of that program. I haven't checked recently but I'm pretty sure Russia has been either expelled or suspended along with the rest of the program.
