@NateMims if you're a DJ and your job is to rock the house, you bring ALL the dance-able tracks to the party

@lauray811 I think there's a lot of self reinforcement there, like the industry people look at what's trending so they try and find something similar to promote, and it's not as good but it's popular enough that it creates a downward spiral in quality. It happened to "grunge" in the 90s and it couldn't be more obvious than the name of the genre itself. In fact I think you could find these cycles repeated in every form of popular music in every era since the recording industry began.

@DirkJoseph some people aren't that concerned about the quality of the content, explains a lot of garbage out there now. Also, rappers who don't write their own lyrics should be looked down upon like they used to be.

@Malali16 they can't really control what people like, they can only control what's available in their real and online stores. And if an independent artist sells enough records they'll try to sign them so they can get their cut.

34:00 I don't like the status quo, but now the right is going to roll back all the workers' gains so we won't be able to bankroll better candidates in the future.

before hip hop existed there was the Monkees, they didn't even hide what they really were. They were doing for predominantly white pop rock what KnP did for hip hop, but they were fake AF. KnP were the foil for hardcore rap styles while the Monkees were fending off the counterculture of the 60s.

@BeautyOutspoken it's the syncretisation of the worst of both worlds discussed in this video

@kevinxavier8610 kinda like the MAGA drones who buy hats made in China that don't even fund the candidate they're supporting (there's no copyright on Make America Great Again, anyone can sell merch to those idiots)
