  1. That’s correct. The heat comes from the water that circulates through the engine to keep it from overheating. That water then passes through the radiator, which dumps the heat into the surrounding air. The heater just diverts part of that hot water into a smaller radiator to heat the air that is blown into the interior of the car. But it’s waste heat either way. Not using the heater doesn’t prevent the heat from being generated. Using the seat heater DOES burn more fuel, because it draws power from the battery. The alternator has to replace that power by recharging the battery, which increases the load on the engine, consuming more fuel.

  2. I’m not a gym person, but I used to know a guy who spent a lot of time there. He HATED January, because it meant that the gym would be overrun by people he referred to as “resolutionaries.” They were there only because they had made a resolution, and within a few weeks, 99% of them would give up and vanish. But in the meantime, they got in everyone’s way and tied up the equipment, which they didn’t know how to use properly. They also knew nothing about gym etiquette. As a result, they made all the gyms unusable for the first month of every year. Then they disappeared, having wasted their money and accomplished nothing.
