  1. "I think there may be a a mistake on my bill. Can you help me figure it out?" That's not the passive voice. "Passive voice" is a grammatical term for structuring a sentence so that the object of the sentence becomes the subject. The passive-voice version of this example is: "I think a mistake has been made on my bill. Can you help me figure it out?" Using the passive voice is one way to avoid assigning blame, but it's not the only way. Another way is to state that a mistake exists without saying anything about who is responsible for it. That's what "there may be a mistake" does. It's effective, but it doesn't use passive voice.
