The reason for the frequent failure in earlier CVT design was overheating. Owners that put an aftermarket tranny cooler on their Nissan extended the life of their CVT. CVT fluid changes every 36000 miles also really helps. But just buy a torque converter automatic... dry dual clutch automatic transmissions like Ford used is complete trash....
