Actually he got into trouble for suing and being sued by pretty much everybody of consequence, and for being...well A real jerk...until his friend The Pope said...(and I paraphrase) 'I've had Enough! You guys guys want him, go get him...you can't kill him, but beat him like a redheaded stepchild' This is the Cliffnotes version.
