  1. The same thing happened in the American civil war. The south was genuinely completely overrun with prisoners and the north had a scorched earth policy thus starving the southerners and their prisoners in particular and the north paraded the human skeletons as propaganda to make their troops fight harder. It, like all, was a very dirty war that most have no clue about.
