  1. My gramps survived The Somme. Didn't speak very often. Only thing he ever said about it, once, was about searching for his best mate and finding him with half his head from a shell. They were a different type of human. He was an overly nice, quiet lovely man. He masked his pain, if he even had any, expertly well. NEVER complained. He was in the great depression and spanish flue too. Died of cancer just before WW2 (all he passed on was his luck!)
