Trying this in America might cut a few flights, but then again how far can you get in 2.5 hours on slow as a turtle Amtrak if you’re not on the northeast corridor/Acela route?

@madjenta3079 Congress will cry poverty... even while trying to sneak through a $2 trillion defense spending bill to replace ICBM nuclear missile tech that’s not that old, and doesn’t need replacing, or another bill for $900 billion to build nuclear tipped missiles for use at sea, that would probably violate a disarmament treaty or two.

@peterthomas5792 also because the distances between places are humongous in America, compared to European countries. Yes China is building long distance high speed, but China has the capability to simply say "the new train goes here, people living here must get out of the way". Try that level of eminent domain anywhere in America and it will be tied up in the courts for a long while.
