  1. @Jay Dee here in the US they have bought thousands of licenses to drill in a certain place, but they aren’t drilling, they’re just sitting on these places and raking in the money as demand soared while supply stayed relatively level.

  2. In the US, yes. The Federal government subsidizes the oil industry to “keep prices low for consumers” (otherwise our fuel prices would likely match Europe.)

  3. A lot of states are deploying “gas tax holidays” to try to help people, but then a week later the price went up past any savings from the pennies per gallon not having the tax saved.
